The Artful Canine -

The Artful Groomer and The Artful Canine were created from a desire for artistic expression and a love for dogs. My name is Joanne Wood-Ellison, and I am principal of The Artful Groomer and The Artful Canine.

My interest and love of animals has been with me since I was a child. There has rarely been a time when I did not have an animal or canine in my life. Since I had groomed my own dogs (Collies, Mini Schnauzers, etc.) I decided to start offering grooming services to others as a way to satisfy my yearning for a creative outlet.

While grooming, I simultaneously began designing and handcrafting a line of unique fashion dog collars and leashes. For every collar I purchased (yes, it's clothes for dogs!) I thought of collar designs that I could make and be unique from the rest. - and that's how The Artful Groomer and The Artful Canine came to be.

OUR GROOMING PHILOSOPHY

Every dog is unique, just like their human counterpart. So I think it important that dogs be groomed
in visually appealing styles that best suit their coat, physique and personality.

While AKC breed grooming standards are important and were developed to accentuate the characteristics of a dogs breed, very few of us have dogs that are "show" breeds. More and more, mixed breeds are emerging, making "standards" difficult to achieve in grooming. Most important is a dogs health and comfort. Proper skin and coat care for the climate in which a dog lives is tantamount. The Artful Groomer's philosophy is to groom a dog in a manner that promotes healthy skin and coat in an attractive and creative way that suits both the dog and owners lifestyle. It is my belief that every dog, regardless of its breed, be groomed with care, compassion, and precision.
